This series provides attendees an intimate session with an expert specialist who will lead an engaging topic-focused discussion. Clinical Track

After attending the clinical track at this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Review the indications and optimal implementation of endoscopy and imaging in IBD, as well as potential disease process imitating IBD
  • Analyze the risk factors and complications in the course of treating IBD in regards to thrombosis, gluten sensitivity, pain, autoimmune and drug induced enteropathy
  • Discuss advances in therapies in IBD to optimize patient management
  • Summarize where expert consensus lies regarding debatable topics of ileoanal pouch in Crohn’s colitis patients, use of biologic treatment addition to asymptomatic ulcerative colitis patients on an immunomodulator, and use or continuation of biologic or immunomodulator when IBD patient develops a malignancy.
  • Apply expert knowledge and experience to improve patient outcomes in cases of outpatient management of IBD, extraintestinal manifestations, opportunistic infections, difficult management decisions, and surveillance of colorectal cancer
  • Identify the surgical approach most appropriate in individual patients with Ulcerative Colitis in regards to ostomy, and outcomes of patient management with J-pouch surgery
  • Summarize the use of immunomodulators and biologics in treatment course of IBD patient, exploring the connection with lymphoma and cancer, skin side effects, potential infections, and other major side effects
  • Describe where expert consensus lies regarding debatable topics of medical therapy, endoscopic therapy, or ileocolonic resection as first line treatment for severe Crohn’s disease, continuation of immunomodulators and anti-TNFs when infections occur, and treatment pathways for patients with CMV and steroid refractory ulcerative colitis
  • Apply expert knowledge and experience to improve patient outcomes in cases of challenging inpatient IBD, complications in Crohn’s disease, identifying treatment errors, pregnant patients, and GI tract infections
  • Comment on specific IBD patient management challenges such as geriatric IBD, fistulae treatment, and Crohn’s disease management after ileo-colonic resection

Basic Science Track

After attending the basic science track at this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Review the expert understanding of the role of genetics in IBD in the areas of recent developments, genetic mutations, and genetic associations across populations
  • Describe the dynamic role of genome modulation of the microbiome, Epithelium and Autophagy in IBD
  • Discuss the association of genome modulation on the immune system, environmental triggers and intestinal barrier in IBD
  • State the novel technologies regarding the genome in IBD with interest in extra-intestional manifestation, pathobionts and innate-microbe interactions, and immunemediated implications
  • Identify the role of genetics in pediatric IBD management to recognize pediatric biological phenotypes, immunodeficiencies and IBD within same families, and genetics across diverse populations
  • Discuss the expert findings in the role of the genome in IBD as applied to Animal Models in regulating the adaptive immune system and innate immune system
  • List the highlights regarding future research directions in IBD with specific focus on new genetic mutations and intestinal stem cells
  • Summarize expert knowledge regarding future research directions in IBD with specific focus on the role of the genome in IBD

Pediatric Track

After attending the pediatrics track at this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the medical management course in pediatric IBD patients with Anti-TNFs and future therapies
  • Summarize where expert consensus lies regarding the debatable pediatric IBD topic of therapy end-points
  • Discuss challenges in management of sleep disturbances, immunosuppression, and Clostridia difficile in pediatric IBD patients
  • Identify where expert consensus lies regarding debatable topic of osteoporosis in IBD

Nursing Track

After attending the nursing track at this conference, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize and explore nursing challenges and controversies in caring for an IBD patient
